Our Pub

Brick, beams and open fireplaces since the 1700s

Tucked down Cot Lane in the rural village of Chidham, The Old House at Home sits within easy reach of the historic city of Chichester and the water of Chichester Harbour.

The beautiful 18th century brick building keeps its traditional wooden beams and open fireplaces, with a serene garden for fine weather. Our hospitality has been recognised with a TripAdvisor Award for Excellence, and we are consistently ranked among the top pubs and restaurants around Chichester.

Dogs are very welcome. So are muddy boots, fresh from the Chidham peninsula walk that starts and finishes at our door, as featured in Coast Magazine.

Our own bitter, and the best of the independents

Our hand pumps carry ales from independent breweries: Chidham Best, our own bitter brewed for us by Langham Brewery in Lodsworth, alongside Harveys Sussex Best from Lewes, Palmers of Bridport, Timothy Taylor Landlord and Doom Bar. Aspall and Thatchers Traditional on cider.

The wine list runs from a crisp Chilean Sauvignon Blanc by the glass to a growers’ Sancerre and a classic Petit Chablis, with a characterful Champagne for the occasions that deserve it.

“We have been visiting this pub over the years and have never been let down. Food is lovely, hot and well presented. A good range of beers and well kept. Friendly and helpful staff. The garden is a sun trap.”

“The food here is absolutely delicious and fresh. We come here for the lunch menu regularly and the food is equally as good every time.”

Google review, local guide

“What a superb country pub, tucked away down a lane. Looked superb as we approached, and busy with others having the special menu.”
